Short Introduction
Bankata is a Romanian personal-finance platform that helps consumers compare financial products, connect and monitor bank accounts, track spending and make better-informed financial decisions. It combines a financial-product marketplace with an open-banking-enabled money-management application and educational content.
About the Company
Bankata was created by former banking professionals Diana Seredenciuc and Andrei Perianu. The idea emerged in 2020 from their experience of navigating the mortgage market and the difficulty consumers faced when trying to understand and compare financial products. The Bankata.ro platform was officially launched in 2021.
The company operates a digital marketplace that analyses and compares products offered by banks, investment firms and other financial institutions. Consumers can review credit cards, personal and mortgage loans, digital accounts and investment accounts before continuing their application with the relevant provider.
Bankata has also developed a personal-finance application for iOS and Android. The app allows users to connect payment accounts held with different European institutions, consolidate their financial information, categorise transactions and analyse income and spending. Its open-banking connectivity is provided through Salt Edge.
The wider Bankata ecosystem also includes financial calculators, editorial guides, the BankaPedia educational section, the “Tu și Banii” podcast and finance-oriented newsletters.

Licences & Regulatory Status
Open Banking and Account Information
Bankata’s terms describe the app’s account-synchronisation function as an Account Information Service under the PSD2 framework. The connection is read-only and is used to import account and transaction data; the app cannot modify the underlying bank account or move money.
Bankata uses Salt Edge’s Partner Program to connect users’ accounts. Salt Edge explicitly describes this programme as enabling partner businesses to access European open-banking data without obtaining their own PSD2 licence, while Salt Edge handles the relevant bank connectivity, security and regulatory infrastructure.
No separate BNR authorisation for Bankata Online S.R.L. as a payment institution or specialised account-information service provider was identified in the public information reviewed. Accordingly, Bankata should be presented as an open-banking-enabled personal-finance platform, rather than as an independently licensed AISP.
Financial Products and Advice
Bankata:
- Is not a bank or non-bank financial institution;
- Does not accept deposits;
- Does not issue the loans, cards or investment products displayed on its platform;
- Directs users towards products supplied by the relevant regulated banks, lenders, brokers or investment firms;
- States that its content and app services do not constitute financial, accounting, tax or other professional advice;
- May receive a commission from a financial institution when a user selects an eligible product, without an additional charge to the user.
The regulated financial products displayed through Bankata remain subject to the licences and regulatory obligations of the institutions that issue or provide them.
Data Protection
Because the app processes financial and transaction data, Bankata is subject to GDPR and applicable Romanian data-protection, consumer-protection and cybersecurity requirements. Users must provide explicit consent for account access and can revoke that consent.
