Short Introduction

Paysera Romania is the local representative of the Paysera fintech network, providing Romanian individuals and companies with access to digital payment accounts, money transfers, currency exchange, payment cards and online or in-store payment-acceptance solutions.

About the Company

Paysera Romania is the Romanian market representative of Paysera, a European fintech group established in Lithuania in 2004. The local company provides Romanian-language customer support, sales, market development and assistance with the group’s payment products.

The regulated financial services available to Romanian customers are supplied by Paysera LT UAB, the group’s Lithuanian electronic money institution, under its European passport for Romania. These services include electronic-money and payment accounts, IBANs, euro and international transfers, currency exchange, payment cards and payment collection for online or physical merchants.

Individuals and businesses can manage their accounts through Paysera’s online platform and Super App. Customers may hold and exchange multiple currencies, make SEPA, SEPA Instant and international transfers, receive money, monitor account activity and use supported payment-card functionality.

For merchants, Paysera provides e-commerce payment processing, account-to-account payment collection, card acceptance, QR-code payments and the Paysera POS solution. The group also supplies ticketing technology for event organisers and APIs for companies that need to integrate payment functionality into their own systems.

According to Paysera Group, it serves customers in more than 100 countries. The group reported more than 10.6 million transfers, in over 20 currencies, with a combined value exceeding €12.1 billion during 2024. These are Paysera Group figures and should not be attributed exclusively to the Romanian entity.

Payment-card issuer

Under the current card terms displayed on the Romanian website, the Visa payment-card account and card are issued by Finansinės paslaugos “Contis”, UAB, a Lithuanian electronic money institution holding Bank of Lithuania licence no. 53. Paysera LT UAB acts as the distributor of this card product.

This should be distinguished from Paysera Group’s recently announced status as a Visa Issuing Principal Member, which supports its future direct card-issuing capabilities.

Protection of customer funds

Paysera accounts and cards are electronic-money products, not bank deposits. Consequently, the funds are not covered by a bank deposit-guarantee scheme and do not earn deposit interest.

Applicable electronic-money rules require customer funds to be safeguarded separately from the institution’s own operating money. For the current Visa card product, the applicable terms state that customer funds are held in segregated accounts and protected from claims by the card issuer’s creditors in the event of insolvency.
