Short Introduction

NETOPIA Payments is one of Romania’s best-known digital-payment platforms and, since July 2026, a payment institution authorised by the National Bank of Romania. Through NETOPIA Financial Services S.A., the company provides regulated payment-acquiring infrastructure together with a broad merchant toolkit covering online card payments, digital wallets, tokenised checkout, recurring and instalment payments, marketplace flows, BNPL and payment links.

About the Company

The NETOPIA group was founded in 2003 by Antonio Éram and Felix Crișan, with a focus on combining technology and electronic payments for Romania’s growing e-commerce market. The group developed NETOPIA Payments, mobilPay Wallet and other digital services and became a major local payments provider.

The current operating entity, NETOPIA FINANCIAL SERVICES, was established in 2020 and changed its legal form from S.R.L. to S.A. effective 31 January 2025. In 2023, a majority stake in the NETOPIA group was acquired by Innova Capital, while the founders remained involved in the broader ecosystem.

NETOPIA states that more than 25,000 businesses use its services and that the NETOPIA Payments platform processes more than a quarter of Romania’s online card transactions annually. Its merchant offering spans card acquiring, SMS payments, digital wallets and checkout optimisation tools, with integrations for major e-commerce, SaaS, invoicing and financial platforms.

A major regulatory milestone was reached on 10 July 2026, when NETOPIA FINANCIAL SERVICES S.A. became an active payment institution in the National Bank of Romania’s register under number IP-RO-0018. The company’s public strategy is to evolve from a payment processor toward a broader regulated financial-services platform for merchants.
